Montjuic funicular

The Montjuic funicular is the means of transport integrated into the Barcelona metro that allows us to climb the Montjuïc mountain.

How to get to Montjuic with the Montjuic Funicular

The Montjuic funicular is integrated into the Barcelona metro network. It has two stations, the upper station called Miramar is located in the middle of the Montjuic mountain from where you can access different points of interest in the mountain such as the Joan Miró Foundation or parks such as the Joan Brossa, the adjoining building is the Lower station of the Montjuic cable car with which you can finish climbing to the highest part of the mountain where the Montjuic Castle is located. The lower station of the Montjuic funicular is accessed by the Paral.lel metro station, where it can be reached from the outside on Avenida de Paralelo or by transferring on line 2 (lilac) or line 3 (green) of the metro Barcelona. To get to the funicular, you have to walk down a corridor located at the access of the Parallel metro in the lobby next to the Apolo Theater.

Montjuic funicular timetable

The Montjuic funicular runs trips every 10 minutes throughout the service from the morning it opens until the service closes. The hours of operation are different from the metro. The opening is the same throughout the year, being from Monday to Friday, not holidays, at 7:30 am. On weekends and holidays the first trip is made at 9 in the morning. The closing time is in winter time at 8:00 p.m. and in summer time it is at 10:00 p.m. The time change from summer to winter and winter to summer is the Monday following the time change made in October entering winter time. On the Monday following the last weekend in March, the time changes again and closes at 10pm.

Montjuic funicular ticket price

The ticket to go up to the Montjuic funicular is the same one used for the metro. If you access from the Paral.lel or Parc de Montjuic station, you must validate any valid ticket for the Barcelona metro. In the case that you transfer at the Paralel station with line 2 or line 3 of the Barcelona metro you will have to go to the Montjuic funicular following the indications of the Montjuic funicular as seen in the symbol of the photo that represents an inclined train green, without having to validate the ticket again as it is a transfer with the ticket validated at any stop where you accessed the Barcelona metro you can continue to the destination of the Parc de Montjuic.

The Montjuic funicular is a transport to climb the Montjuic mountain, it has a ticket integrated with the Barcelona metro. Not to be confused with the Montjuic cable car that starts where the upper station of the Montjuic funicular is located and goes up to the Castle but with a separate ticket.
