Spanish Town of Barcelona

The Spanish Village was created for the 1929 International Exposition with the aim of recreating the most emblematic buildings and squares in Spain. In principle, it was only created for the Exhibition but its spectacular nature has brought it to this day as one of the highlights of Barcelona. Its charms are not only based on the architectural beauty of its streets, but on the visit of craft shops and its restaurants, art gallery and cultural offer.

History of the Spanish Town

The Spanish Town was created for the International Exposition of Barcelona in 1929, after touring Spain to collect information on the most emblematic buildings, the architects Francesc Folguera and Ramón Reventós recreated a town with its streets and squares with more than 100 buildings simulating the different regions from Spain. Despite being destined for the 6-month life of the Exhibition, the success of attendance has allowed them to continue to this day.

In the Spanish Village we can find more than 100 buildings replicas of historical buildings from different regions of Spain and streets that take you to visit different parts of Spain, with its artisan shops inside.

Museum Fran Daurell

Inside the Spanish Village is the Fran Daurell museum with a very important private collection of Contemporary art with works by Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Tapies and a collection by Pablo Picasso

restaurants, nightlife and tablao flamenco

Within the Spanish Village there are restaurants, clubs and the Tablao de Carmen, being one of the most important flamenco tablaos in the city dedicated to the figure of Carmen Amaya. During the different times of the year they carry out thematic activities dedicated especially to enjoy with the family.

  • Shops and workshops from 10:00 a.m. at 8:00 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. depending on the season of the year.

  • Fran Daurell Museum summer time (June, August and September) from 11:00 a.m. at 8:00 p.m.

    Rest of the year: from 10:00 a.m. at 7:00 p.m., Monday closes 30 minutes before.

How to get to the Spanish Town

The Spanish Village is located in the lower part of the Montjuic mountain, 5 minutes from the Montjuic Fountains and 10 minutes from Plaza España. The best way to get there is from Plaza España, take bus 150, if the bus is late to arrive and you want to take a walk, walking towards the sources of Montjuic and continue along the avenue of the stadium we will find Poble Espanyol.
